Oak-Slat Cloakroom with Brushed Copper Details in Christchurch

This Christchurch homeowner wanted their downstairs cloakroom to feel like a designed space rather than an afterthought. The existing room was functional but plain — nothing that would leave an impression on guests, and nothing the family particularly enjoyed using. The brief was to introduce warmth, texture and a clear point of interest without making a small room feel busy.

We started with a full strip-out and built the new look around a single, confident idea: warm wood paired with brushed copper. A light oak wood-effect vanity unit with an integrated white ceramic basin sits against a full-height vertical wood-slat feature wall — the slats add texture and a sense of height that makes the room feel taller and more considered than a flat painted wall ever could.

The brushed copper detailing runs consistently throughout the room — the single-lever basin tap, the vanity handles, the basin waste, and the round flush button on the WC. Repeating one finish across every fitting is a small touch that makes a cloakroom feel deliberately designed rather than assembled from whatever was available.

Around the window, soft sage green painted walls add a gentle hint of colour that complements the warm wood tones beautifully, and the wood-effect plank flooring ties the whole scheme together while staying fully practical for a high-traffic room. A back-to-wall WC with a matching wood-effect cistern unit keeps the pipework hidden and the lines clean.
